More about Rebecca

Working with families through pregnancy and postpartum is such a gratifying aspect of my life. I love what I do.

I came to this work after having my first child, and it has been so satisfying to share the knowledge that has been so helpful to me on my mothering journey, and to help other parents find their own unique touchstones.

Over the last 9 years I have worked with countless families in many different birthing places, and with many different providers. What it has taught me is to hold a deep appreciation for the multiplicity of this big life experience. There is no one-size-fits-all way to do this. We come to birth with our own unique lived experience, family history, and expectations, so of COURSE our journeys will be different than others, and unique to ourselves.

a hope for my clients

I hope all my clients unique experience includes the confidence to advocate for themselves, to experience their body and baby in an affirming way, and have a meaningful transformation into the role of mother or father, parent, family.

Rebecca Belenky birth doula services NELA

My passion for birth work sprang from my own childbearing experience.

Being cared for by a midwife, and experiencing the respectful support of the midwifery model opened up a world of possibilities for me. My midwife shared information with me and then trusted that I would take responsibility for making choices that aligned with my values. I felt autonomous, informed, and respected. This kind of thoughtful care was life-changing in my journey to becoming a mother. The critical thinking that I was asked to take part in, allowed me to embrace my role as a parent, and helped me develop my own intuition and opinion on how I would like to give birth and then raise my children.

Fast forward to having a second child and even as they are suddenly both elementary school aged, I continue to learn and grow in my thinking as a parent. I still return to those foundational concepts in my days as a baby parent.
